I've had this guitar since about 1986, bought used at a pawn shop.

I'm very suspicious of the guitar.
Has a fake looking blue mother-of-pearl electra on the headstock
Proper electra symbols on the back of each tuner
Has an electra hard case
Looks almost like the X230, except the plate on the head says "custom" not "Omega"
The back neck plate is clean. Nowhere on the guitar says Made in Japan.
The serial number is 23950. [url][/url]







Any help on IDing is appreciated.

it's probably the 2249 Super Rock. The Omegas were set neck

What a good guess!

I was confused by the pick guard. Note the position of these two screws.

I thought that a large pick guard was missing.

But now that I look, the screws are of different vintages.

This one, just below the neck, was added later for some reason.

I think I can even see the outline of the former attachment.

What to do with that extra screw...

Sorry to correct myself here, but I see what the screws are for.

There was a clear pick guard as well as a metal clasp. The screws line up perfectly.

Should I look for a replacement before selling it?

Would a fret job increase the value?

Years ago, when trying to ID this guitar, a luthier friend did a lot of knocking and swore that the body had a semi-hollow part, essentially where the lock guard was. Was this common for an early 1980s model?

This is indeed a super Rock model and yes for a select few years there was a hollow area in the guitar. If you remove the pickup and look in you should be able to detect the hollow pocket. The Electra logo on this one is the same as the Electra logos that had the torch on the headstock so may have been a predecessor to the short lived but cool torch logo. Looks all original and looks to be a nice player. If you like it the do a fret job otherwise I would leave that to the new owner. Some players like the worn frets or they can do the job themselves. Nice Electra.

Would you go searching for the pick guard before putting it on the market?
