This was a project guitar. I'd received it partially wired with pots and everything I needed except for pickups and a jack. Was routed for humbuckers with push-pull pots, the former owner lined all body routes with copper plating. Pickguard was custom made as well. Came with a Schaller 456 bridge.


The wiring was strange so I de-soldered almost all of it and went almost from scratch (schematic thanks to Mike 'guittarasaurus'). Had to drill out the input jack hole which had been moved to the bottom edge of the guitar. Took a decent amount of drilling, I found it amusing that I was aggressively drilling into my guitar, haven't done that before! Filed the brass nut and glued it in place. The routes were too small for humbuckers so I had to widen them, along with the pick guard holes which also needed widening.


Used the MMK45 and MMK53 I'd potted for the neck and bridge, respectively. I was surprised when I fired it up, everything worked like it should! Was my first time wiring almost from scratch, I didn't quite know what to expect. One master volume pot and one push-pull pot for coil tapping each humbucker. I LOVE this set up, very versatile and easy to use. 3 way switch for pickup selection.















Pickups sound just great. Very glad I'd potted them.

I don't name guitars, but "Muttly" jumped to mind with this one. It's seen a lot of use over the years, and certainly not 100% original although it's very original if you know what I mean. Absolutely love how it looks, can't wait to crank it up and really take it for a spin tonight. Wow! Lookin' good, Chad. I'm very glad that you dig it so much. They don't have to be expensive to be a great ride. It's one of the best aspects of collecting Electras, the dollar vs. quality ratio.
