I visit a lot of Thrift Shops, pawn shops, flea markets and garage sales looking for that forgotten treasure.
As you know there are millions of cheap strat copies everywhere and I have no problem passing them by and never giving them a second look-----but on this occasion I did! Maybe it was the bright red sunburst that caught my eye or the $20 price tag. Anyway after giving it a quick glance to see if all the parts was intact, I laid my $20.00 down and walked out.

.
Took it home and took the pickguard off, the wiring was intact, pickups were ceramic and I sprayed some contact/switch cleaner on the pots. Put on a new set of strings and set it up to my desires as close as possible and fired it up. Guess what, the action is low, no buzzing or fretting out up and down the neck.
The ceramic pickups sound OK. It stays in tune very well. I did a little research on it and found out it has a maple body---not plywood, what a surprise! I think about upgrading it every now and then but that would destroy my story---a good player for $20 :D

For 20 bucks, oh yea. I'm with you. The head stock and the skunk stripe neck kinda look like the old Hondo's, from a Samick? (hope its spelled right) Think I heard they came from the same factory/catalog in Korea.

Yeah, I got one that would better fit the cheesy classification. In the 70's I made a home made flying V out of old parts from a Japanese hollow body I inherited from my grandpa. The holly body had completely disintegrated when I got it, so I used the parts to make my dream guitar, a flying V at the time. My first attempt to make a guitar:>)-So you can imagine. I will try to find some pictures or take some new pictures if required---we'll all have a good laugh

I recently upgraded this ax. Installed a new Affinity Tremolo system, Installed two used CTS 250K pots in the volume, neck tone positions and a Mallory 150 .047 tone cap. Also rewired switch so middle tone pot now controls bridge tone--no tone control on middle. Also installed some Fender American Hwy 1 Strat pickups I had on hand. I'm telling ya---the thing would rival the tone of an American strat now
