Hey guys, a few months back I picked up a none Electra guitar for cheap or so I thought. It was a flying V model with a maple neck. Ad said it had been hanging on the wall but was a soild player. The neck was removed for shipping and packed well. The ad also said the guitar was dirty and needed a cleaning so I started cleaning it up before putting the neck on. I checked it quickly before cleaning the neck and saw it was bowed but didnt give it to much thought. The finger board was really nasty (the whole thing was nasty) but after cleaning the rose wood with a razor around the fret edges and cleaning it with fret board conditioner it started looking pretty good. Removed the tuners and cleaned them up. I put a straight edge on the board and gave the bullet truss rod nut a bump, nothing. Gave it another and another and another untill I ran out of threads and bottomed out with 3/16 or better gap at the first fret not touching til the 7th fret. I read up on it and tried clamping it with the truss rod nut removed with enough bow to make it right. I checked and reclamped for over 2 weeks and still had nothing. Then I saw something about heat. after checking all the options I went with this one. The guy used a regular heating pad, wraped around the neck while haveing it in a bowed position and it worked after a few tries for him. I tried it with mine clamped a little different. I had a 1 X 2 strip of maple with a small piece at the middle and clamps on the end with felt over the finish. I wrapped the heat pad around the neck it covered most of the length, set it on med. and left it for 2 hrs. and let it cool for the night. It took out not quite half the bow so like the other guy I did it again this time setting it on high and leaving it for around 4 hrs. letting it cool and leaving it clamped for 2 more days. I unclamped it and the neck is now straight. After stringing it back up it now has relief I can set with the rod.
The rest of the guitar cleaned up good after removing some decals and a treb/rythm disc that was not supposed to be there. It has its share of battle scares and I'm going to leave them. I'm happy with how its turned out. This one was fun though.
I dont think you will see this problem on an Electra because of the U shaped channel over the truss rod but it does work if you need it.

one thing to be careful of is when tightening the truss rod cover, it is possible to pull the "anchor" end into the channel, effectively making the TR useless. I had that happen on a Outlaw bass. I was able to extract the TR by pulling it through the channel, then I welded a bigger anchor onto the end. luckily the other end of the channel was accessible with the pups out, and I was able to get it reinserted...

With back bow you want to lossen the truss rod.

The neck was back bowed even with the nut removed. It just would not come back. After heating it up clamped with a releif and letting it cool while still clamped it came back.
But check this out, I typed hondo 767 in and google popped this up.

Heres the guitar, the very guitar I bought. Scroll down to the highlight block, the white V on the stove. Click the photo of the guitar to see the old ad. I did get cheaper than the old price. Found this in this cluster photo shot.This is an ad before the ad I bought mine thru. It had the flag and the trem ryth disc on it. I removed those and replaced the batwing switch with a cream tip. It was very dirty when I got it and the ad said that it was and the photo with the ad I saw showed it was dirty. This stove shot must have been a while back. But it cleaned up nice and it does sound good now. I really like these necks. Now I have a white one and a black one. The black one has a TRCover and a gibson type nut. Both would benifit from a Dimarzio super distortion pick up, but for now I'm good with it.
