Finished Product - finally got the binding and glued it on, scraped it down with a razor blade. Not perfect but better than I thought it would look.

Looks like a very good repair Thorny. I do quite a bit of finish work (touching up of rash) on old basses and I've found that a micromesh kit is worth it's weight in gold when it comes to the final polish on rework. A standard kit has 1200, 1500, 1800, 2400, 3200, 4000, and 6000 grit papers (to be used wet) and a bottle of anti-static cream (a super fine finishing compound). I have achieved great results using these kits......if they're good enough for aircraft windows....... :)
