Hi, I have an old Electra guitar that I am trying to identify. The Model number has been worn off the back of the plate on the headstock. Browsing through online, I think it may be a 2249, but I'm unsure.

Here are some pictures of the guitar:

Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Yours appears to be the 2245 Super Rock. The 2249 would have been natural without sunburst and stain/paint.

Awesome thanks a lot. I read that page, and the serial number on my headstock starts with a 1, does that make it most likely a 1981 model?

I found this on ebay, it claims to be a '75 model, and serial number starts with 3, but is a spitting image of my guitar, less the pick guard mount. http://www.ebay.com/itm/75-Electra-Supe ... 1e9a2dc285

Any thoughts? Also, is this considered a decent quality guitar?

Thanks again!

The one on 'the bay' is not a 1975. That one would have the open book or maybe the "cut-out" headstock. The wave headstock did not come into use until 1975-76.

As far as the foil tags serial numbers go, those are useless in determining the year. Other clues must be used i.e. headstock shape, stampings/ids on the electronics, model variations, etc. The only serial numbers that truly determine a year are the stamped ones used primarily after 1980. There are some exceptions that happen depending on the manufacturer.

As far as quality, these LP copies are very good for a bolt neck example. For the price they out do many of the big name guitars that were produced at the same time period.

Thanks a lot for your help. I'll do some more searching and see if I can find anything on it that better indicates its year.

Right now I'm trying to decide if I should repair/restore it, or try and sell it.

Thanks again.
