I came across this LP style Electra "custom" on my local Craigslist. Wondering if it is worth my while. Kind of appears to be an early 1970s 2242. Any help would be appreciated as I'm tempted to trade a twin reverb '65 reissue but don't want to get ripped off. Thanks! Image

It looks like a 2245, cherry sunburst, bolt neck. Play it first, not every Japanese guitar is a gem. A cream puff that plays nice may fetch $400 or so, I think your amp may be worth more than that. From a motivated seller, $275 to $350 is a reasonable price range. Good luck!

Thanks so much for that, I'll keep looking. I have always thought that Electra's were cool but this one looked a little suspect. Dude is asking $575, I thought the price was a bit high, but I don't think he'll want to cough up another 350$ to get my twin!

It's a set neck however, a rarity. Probably a nice guitar!

I didn't even notice that last picture which shows that it is in fact a set neck (whoops). So this would be an anomaly in the SLM line. All the LP styles that were set neck were either Omegas or MPC's, both of which had the four knobs in a row deal. Possibly PCM? With those cheesy witch-hat knobs and the open book headstock I'd guess it was made between '73 and '75, not necessarily Matsumoku. The set neck bumps up the values I used originally, and could see it flirting with the $575. Again, take it for a spin and let it speak for itself.

Yes I would agree that it is most likely a PCM model as the Early open book SG PCM I have has that same Electra logo. The set neck is indeed unusual on that one especially one made that early. Maybe it was a pre production model that did not make it into production as almost all were the bolt on necks. Hard to say for certain with the PCM models as the documentation on those were limited at best. I would keep the amp and make an offer on the guitar or make a trade with cash for it as I also think your amp is a bit higher value than the guitar. Go for it

Seems like it, doesn't it? Not a common bird to be sure. Possibly (probably?) a pressed top so not on everyone's most desired list. Super cool find. Where is it, I'll ask him about it. We won't steal it from you, no worries there.

I just saw an ebay listing for another unusual Electra LP type.

the listing is titled -
Electra Custom Magnum II Deluxe Model 2257, Electric Guitar Lawsuit LP Matsumoku
I looked it up on the model index and saw only a 2258 Super magnum, not the same guitar, and no 2257.
Anyone know of this model?

The ebay listing says they are mini humbuckers. The guitar is a beauty.

The 2257 with the mini humbuckers is a legit model. The index of models on our site has a few omissions and a few broken links. The best place as of now to view most known models with pictures is the model index page that our forum member McBrat hosts. http://www.indysworld.com/guitars/Elect ... Index.html

As far as the unknown Electra that is at the top of this thread, (UNK-LP-CB-V2) it looks like one of the ones from the unknown distributor (possibly later/ post goofy 60's moon logo on a metal plate PCM) like the LP junior model we have seen in the past. The logo and head stock shape looks very similar to me. (see UNKNOWN in the distributor column in the Electra index above)
