Hi, newbie here, have searched over the website for any info on the model I have (westone spectrum st) which is written on the headstock, the plate on the back is stamped WESTONE "a Matsumoku Product" made in japan serial # 6071401. Red Body/ Black neck, dark wood fret board. Just curious if anyone has a link or any info regarding this model. I am unsure of the year or technical model number.

By the way, excellent website and info, i never realized how many styles were out there!

Another Westone, second one today.
Even though these were sold as student models they have stood the test of time.
Westone didn't seem to be able to make a crumby guitar even if they wanted to.

Folks who play these say they can't imagine being without one.

I love that statement, and agree 100%! (I was actually looking for another of the same model on ebay when I stumbled onto this forum) The guitar plays so nice, the "action" is perfect for me, (although it has sort of a low-end bridge and missing tremelo bar), when I put on a new set of Elixirs or some good old Ernie-ball slinkies, it always manages to stay in tune nicely. I love the look and feel of this model better than any other guitar I have ever owned.

Hi, I'm a newby too. The info you asked for.......Your guitar is a '86 model, Spectrum ST, catalogue number X135RD. The ST was the base model of the Spectrum range produced 85-87. The spec, from the Westone catalogue - Body - Solid Maple, Neck- Hard Maple Satin Black, Fingerbourd - Rosewood........ The Pickups are described as "2 Megnaflux I UBC (Unbalanced Coil)". I guess the coils are unbalanced so you don't get the pronounced volume drop when you use the coil tap (pull master tone control). Hope the helps.

I loved mine when I got it new, still love it today, and now I can't imagine being without several of them!

One of the confusing things about this particular guitar is that, with variations of pickups and bridge, a number of versions of this guitar were sold under a variety of names- the ones I know are:

Electra Phoenix
Electra Westone
Westone Spectrum

The letters seem to indicate different models with pickup combinations, different bridges, whereas with the Phoenixes the model number varied but not the name. I thought according to Electraman's site the X135 was an earleir Electra Phoenix with a natural wood neck. Maybe the model numbers were reused with the later Westones.

It's tough because of the name change from Electra to Westone, the existing Electra and Westone sites don't quite cover the range of guitars that overlap the names. Hopefully soon AP2 willl be able to post some catalogs that cover those ranges!

It's actually my X189RD, but that small it's maybe pretty similar to your Spectrum, unless yours is the darker metallic red color rather than lipstick red.

One thing to note about a 'student' quality guitar- it's definitely a big step above a 'hobbyist' level guitar, which so many modern cheap guitars are. A serious student has to have a good guitar with good action, intonation etc, and these guitars are all of that!

Catalogue? Where, where?
Do you have a copy or did you find it somewhere on the net? If you have the paper version I'd love a scanned copy. Any chances of that?

I have so many goodies to add to the site already, so the more the merrier! My truck is finally back on the road and the bike is nearly finished (a week or two more) and I will able to spend much more time with a keyboard and mouse and MUCH LESS time with a wrench/sandpaper/spray gun in my hands. Besides, my computer room is air conditioned and the garage literally bakes. It will be a refreshing change of pace to start adding to the site instead of fixing it.

If the scans are big it might be difficult for Tele to send a copy to each of us. In that case I can upload them to my web site as a temporary store until Neal can add them to the guitar gallery.

Feeding frenzy is right! Kinda like chumming the water for sharks.

Whatever works is fine for me. Raw JPGs as big as possible without compression works best for reduction and cleanup.

If Tele can BCC (Blind Carbon Copy) several of us he need only send out one message and all of us will get it. I have no size limit on e-mails that I am aware of here on this domain but other ISPs sometimes impose 5 or 10 meg message size limits.

It is supposed to rain all day to morrow last I heard, and if so, I will try to get the new catalog scans from SalemB and Glhein up on the site somewhere. Can't paint or putty when it's raining. And I am going to pretend I can't dry or wet sand when it is raining either. My arms are killing me!

I want to hear all about the chopper project- maybe in another thread.

Well I didn't think I'd get such a great reaction from my first posting.
I've sent Jpeg files to SalemB and The Guitar Gallery. As things seem to have gone OK, I'll send copies of the SX/LX/FX catalogue with the Pantera to follow. If this is not enough I'll have to scratch around to see if I have any thing else. He he he.
