i wasn't looking for this one, and the auction was nearly over when the seller happened to post that it was an electra. it's classic misinformation in the listing...

You know, I tried to get a friend to pick up a particularly nice Electra Explorer a few months ago. I think it was about $250. He politely declined and spent $800 on a new Gibson a few days later. It's nice, I suppose, but I couldn't help but think that he was crazy.

The Electra Explorers look like nice players. Has anyone A/B-ed on with a Gibson Explorer?

Matthew

Curses! my fiendish plot is revealed!!! But since you're all going to die anyway, I might as well tell you all about it. See, I corner the market on ALL the refinished Explorers, and put my own secret formula poison varnish on them... then years later when the guitars are played by unsuspecting Electra lovers, at the proper pitch of feedback in live concert, the toxin is released, turning players and their audiences into mindless zombies!!!

And then, mu ha ha, and then... uh, then i'll... why, i'll. hmm. I'll make you all get me a cheese sandwich! No wait. I can think of something better than that, hmm.

Dang it, I can never get this part of the supervillain role right. Why, last week I shot a flaming arrow into Bruce Wayne's mansion with a note attached containing clues inscribed in Aramaic rhyming slang. But when Batman finally deciphered the code and solved the riddle, I'd forgotten to rob the bank... It's so embarrassing...

Well, dang it, I didn't mean to hog all the fun. And here I was hunting for a Phoenix for ya...

Do you really think it was a 910? Didn't seem likely somebody would spray primer all over a wood finish guitar... but anything's possible... I thought maybe it could be something earlier, maybe a plain-jane version the X910 was based on?

In fact, here's a Phoenix now:

the seller says Electra Westone but i think it's a X185 Phoenix. I have the identical gold guitar, an '83 with Electra Phoenix on the headstock. The round cover on the single coil pickup is somethign I've only seen on the early '83 models, never on any Westone. All the early 83 and 84 guitars are very good, my gold one like this is easily the equal of any other guitar I have in terms of feel and sound. If you could get this for 200$ or under, I'd call it a good deal.

Plus, this one has got what looks like some kind of Kahler bridge or something with rollers. What is that?

You've both lost your minds!

Mike, what sort of Phoenix are you looking for?

The next one is all yours! Is that Rick in the picture? Did he ever even play an Explorer style guitar? I've looked around at the Derringer fan sites, and therr never is one among his guitar collection, nor any Electra. Seems like a contractual deal more than a personal endorsement...

I think one of us should become a famous rock star so our fame can reflect on Electra guitars... course then they'd go up in value, and we wouldnt be able to buy them so cheap... hm, maybe never mind.
