 Post subject: Westone flyer 1984?
PostPosted: Thu Sep 02, 2004 1:22 am
I had some dialogue a month back over this 4 page addendum (+ '84 UK price list) to the Westone '83 catalogue.

The problem is that the scan files were huge even at low res and not being much of a computer user I really don't know how to get them to the GG. My dial up connection just times out or won't co-operate (freeserve).

The flyer contains pics and specs of Thunder jets, spectrums 2 & 3, raiders & prestige models (+ some others, i'm doing this from memory).

Can anyone help cos' i'd really like to share. :hyper:

Hi ToxBass,

I suspect the scanning program is saving them as bitmap, or BMP files. These are normally quite huge. See if the program you're using will save them as jpeg, or JPG instead. That way you can scan at a rather high resolution and the files are still pretty small in file size.

Which program are you using to scan with? Maybe someone here will be familiar with it. Most will allow you to save a scanned image as a JPG if told to.

If this can't be done I can set up an FTP server if you know how to upload files.

I think he's having problems e-mailing them in their current size to begin with. freeserve.co.uk may have message size limits in effect and BMP files are huge. Most scanner sofware that comes with the scanner saves scanned images as BMP by default. Some you can configure to save as JPG by default, others you cant.

If he can manage to save them as JPG then the resolution can be much higher in relation to flie size than BMP and final image quality is greatly imroved.

Most graphic packages can convert them from BMP to JPG as well if the scanner software cannot save as JPG.
