A friend of mine picked up an Electra at a pawn shop the other day. I've since determined that it's an x250 w and he wants to sell it to me for 150 bucks. It's in pretty good shape, has no bad dings and pretty good frets. The neck needs a bit of adjustment and the output jack and switches need some tightening, but that's about it.

I was wondering what someone who has experience with this model thinks about it and what info you might be able provide. From what little I've found it appears to be an 80 model. Which switch is the coil tap and which is the bass/treble. which direction is which for the switches? Do these have the normal magnaflux or the supers? What advantages go with the out of phase switch?

What do you think about the $150 price tag?

Thanks

I don't have one of these, but I think it's safe to say that the Rhythm/Treble (pickup) selector is toggle on the upper horn. The other three should be coil tap, phase reverse, and active EQ on/off. On the other Electras, coil tap and phase reverse are on when the toggle is down, so I would assume it's probably the same on this model.

Looks like those are Magnaflux pickups.

As for the $150 price tag: yes. That seems very reasonable.

great price, it would be a good price even if it didn't have the active EQ.

you can tell which is coil tap because it makes the sound thinner, and if there's a noise source (fluorescent light, etc) nearby you should get a little more noise- not a lot, but a little 60 cycle hum.

Phase reverse is similar in that it makes the sound thinner, but you have to have both pickups selected for them to be out of phase with each other. It'll also cancel all hum, they turn into one big hum- bucker.

cool axe! be sure to post pics of it when you get it!

Thanks for the info, I'll be sure to post a pic when I get it. Should be just a little after Christmas. I'd also like to post a pic to be 100% sure that's what it is, though I'm pretty convinced I've compared it to the electra site pics pretty well. It's identical to the 250 there, though the finish is darker on the one I'm buying.
