 Post subject: Tri-Tone 2261 Bass

Hi all, I just got a 2261. Can anyone tell me about the bridge set up on these. The action is very high due to Bridge height because of the huge dampening system? I have it as low as I can see how to get it..but it's still hard to play. Hate to replace it..it'a all original...anyone with experience with the 2261 would be appreciated it..thanx

It looks pretty darn close to an Aria EB0 clone, and if the construction is the same (which I suspect might be the case) there are several reasons for high action. The number one thing to check is neck relief. If there is an excessive amount of relief in the neck you'll want to take some of that out.

Sometimes the neck would actually bend over time right before where it bolts to the body. I don't believe the truss rod ran to the end of the necks on many.

If neither of these is the case the last option is to shim the neck. The Aria I worked on had a warped neck pocket which was very slightly bent upwards (a result of time and ill fitting case). I shimmed the neck just a small amount and things came back into normal tolerances without buzz at the upper registers. The owner was luck in that it was not the neck that had warped but the neck pocket on the body. Many of the bolt neck hollows of the same period suffered the same fate.

Thanx for the help, I am going to seek a proffesional I think to fiqure it out. This thing will be worth it I think. I had a Corsair Bass with neck problems also..it was the best sounding Bass I ever played...but no one locally would touch the neck problem. Anyone know of a good person to send it to? Also, Is there anywhere to get replacement machine tuners for the Electra basses...?

I like the shop at elderly instruments-

www.elderly.com

shimming the neck is easy. get a phillips screewdriver and a couple pieces of thin wood or thick cardboard.

what you want to do is shim in the bottom of the pocket. stick in a piece of wood like half the thickness of a popsicle stickbut about that size. i bet you find instant action relief. if not, unscrew it, take it back out, nothing to lose.

is there a truss rod? is there relief in the neck at all?
